See Nauvoo News

The last issue of the Nauvoo New Independent came out this summer, leaving Nauvoo without a method of getting out need-to-know news. Even though Nauvoo is a small town where neighbors tend to run into each other at the post office, the pharmacy, the bank, the grocery store, or at church, there are still a lot of things happening that everybody needs to know but many don’t get from informal conversations. The Nauvoo Betterment Association has formed a committee who collect articles, edit, and put together a four-page newsletter each month. This is an effort to provide current information about what is going on around town. Articles and pictures can be emailed to seenauvoonews@gmail.com or left at City Hall.

The Way We Were Walking Tour of Historic Mulholland Street

Launched in September of 2010, the Way We Were Walking Tour tells of the evolution of Nauvoo’s central business district along Mulholland Street between 1850 and 1950. Visitors may relax on a memorial bench, read the interpretive panels and pick up a brochure that leads them to information sheets available in various businesses along the street. Each informational sheet describes the chronological histories of the businesses featured on the tour. As a general reminder, the brochure and thirty-one informational sheets are copyrighted and are for personal use only.

The Nauvoo Chamber of Commerce is promoting “First Friday”, a day that brings added shopping hours and incentives to area customers. The monthly event provides later shopping hours, some stores and restaurants will be offering discounts, specials and events.

“While Nauvoo is known for tourism,” says Nauvoo Chamber President Durell Nelson, “we also have unique shopping year round. By designating the first Friday of each month as a special shopping day with extended hours, we offer our neighbors in the surrounding communities a chance to visit our town and take advantage of the unique products and services Nauvoo offers.”
